Washington Building - 1900

The Washington Building (now One Broadway) opened in 1884 on the site of the old Kennedy Mansion, replaced by the Washington Hotel, which was demolished about 1882 to make room for this office building. Its dome reached 258 feet above ground. In 1919, it was acquired by the International Mercantile Marine Company and the it was renovated to gain its current neoclassical style, completed around 1921.

The 16-story Bowling Green Offices Building, 11 Broadway, is on the right. It was erected between 1895 and 1898. Five additional stories were built in 1920–1921.
