Park Row - 1831
Original title: Park Theatre & Part of Park Row. 1831. Lithograph for D.T. Valentine's Manual, 1855, by George Hayward.
Illustration shows the old Park Row, looking toward St. Paul Chapel. In the 18th century, it was the post road to Boston, running though the Commons.
City Hall Park is on the right. The second Park Theatre is on the left. The original Park Theatre opened in 1798 as the New Theatre and it burned down in 1820.
This second Park Theatre was built on the same site in 1821 and was destroyed by fire in 1848. The American Museum is in the distance, corner of Ann Street. In the following decades, several newspapers and publishers moved to Park Row.
