Canada’s economy grew and became more industrialized during the economic boom of the 1890s and early 1900s. One million British immigrated to Canada at this time. Another million immigrants came from the United States.

Alberta became a Canadian province in 1905, named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and wife of the Marquis of Lorne, Governor General of Canada between 1878 and 1883. Saskatchewan became a province in the same year and brought in a large number of immigrants.
