Tocantins is a landlocked state in the northern region of Brazil, created in 1988. The capital is Palmas. Among the tourist attractions in Tocantins, there are the Araguaia National Park on Bananal Island, the Cantão State Park and Parnaiba River National Park.

Tocantins is bordered by the states of Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pará, Maranhão and Piauí.
