Old Brick Church Demolition - 1856
The Old Brick Church was demolished in 1856 and the New York Times Building was constructed on part of the site, the following year. The Brick Presbyterian Church moved from Beekman Street / Park Row to a new temple in Fifth Avenue in 1858.
This illustration was published in Harper's Weekly on May 9, 1857 in an article entitled The Old Brick Church And Its Pastor (Gardiner Spring). It shows the Old Brick Church, as seen from Park Row, in the demolition process. According to this article, "a sketch of the venerable pile, as it appeared a few days after the work of demolition had been commenced".
