The New York Herald moved to this building in that same year of 1895. The building in the intersection of Broadway and Sixth Avenue became known as Herald Square after the newspaper. The New York Herald newspaper was published between 1835 and 1924, when the company merged with the New-York Tribune to form the New York Herald Tribune.
