The Exhibition of the Industries of All Nations opened on July 14, 1853. The fair was seen by over 1.1 million visitors before closing on November 14, 1854.

The Latting Observatory was a wooden tower in Manhattan built for the Exhibition, adjoining the New York Crystal Palace. It was located on the North side of 42nd Street, between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue, across the street from the site of present Bryant Park.

New York Crystal Palace was also constructed for the Exhibition. The building stood on a site behind the Croton Distributing Reservoir in what is now Bryant Park. It was designed by Georg Carstensen and German architect Charles Gildemeister, inspired by the Crystal Palace built in London to house the Great Exhibition of 1851.
