The Vanderbilt House, looking southwest from 59th Street and 5th Avenue, between 1905 (when the 23-story Gotham Hotel, to the left, opened) and 1916, when the Pulitzer Fountain was installed in the southern section of The Plaza. Fifth Avenue is to the left (vintage postcard).
