Quito is the capital of Ecuador. It is located 20 km south of the equator in a 2850 m high area of the Andes and is therefore one of the highest capitals in the world. It is one of the two largest cities in the country alongside Guayaquil. It is also the capital of the canton of the same name and the province of Pichincha. The old town of Quito is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
