The old Metropolitan Opera House at 1411 Broadway, between West 39th Street and West 40th Street, is on the left (opened in 1883). The Hotel Astor (opened in 1904) is in the distance. The area already had several other theaters. Many hotels and entertainment services such as restaurants and dance halls emerged in the early 20th century.
