Naval Arch at Madison Square - 1900

 

The temporary commemorative arch, known as Dewey Arch, installed in 1899, on the junction of Broadway and Fifth Avenue, at Madison Square. It was demolished in 1900. Inscription: "To the glory of the American Navy and in greeting to our Admiral a grateful City relying on their valor has built  this Arch - MDCCCXCIX".
