Park Row from Ann Street - 1895

Park Row looking north from the corner of Ann Street. Original title: The Heart of New York near City Hall and Post Office (on the left). Photographed and published by Benjamin West Kilburn, Littleton, N.H. Copyright 1895. Source: Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division.

Photo shows pedestrians, streetcars, stores and office buildings on the right. Some of these buildings were demolished to make way for the Park Row Building, completed in 1899 with 31 floors high.

The City Hall is behind the Post Office. The old New Yorker Staats-Zeitung building, completed in 1873, is in the distance.
