Times Square - 1932

The old Times Square at night with heavy traffic and its many illuminated billboards, looking north. The Astor Hotel is on the left. Photo from Museum of the City of New York.

The Loew's State Theatre at 1540 Broadway (on the right) is showing the film Red Dust, starring Clark Gable and Jean Harlow, released October 22, 1932. The Coca-Cola ad with Santa Claus shows that Christmas is coming. This theater opened in 1921 and closed in 1987. It was replaced by the Bertelsmann Building.
