Fifth Avenue Hotel and 23rd Street - 1905

The old Fifth Avenue Hotel seen from 23rd Street at the intersection of Broadway and Fifth Avenue. Madison Square is to the right and the Albemarle Hotel is on the northwest corner of 24th Street. Vintage postcard, copyrighted 1905 by the Rotograph Co.

In June 1856, Eno began the construction of a hotel on the site of the old Hippodrome. This six-story luxury hotel opened in 1859 and closed in 1908. It occupied the entire block between West 23rd and West 24th streets, formerly occupied by the Madison Cottage and by the Hippodrome in 1853.
